NAME: Emmanuel Etiang
AGE: 4
CLASS: Baby class

History: Emmanuel lives with his mother who is HIV positive and his baby sister. His father abandoned his mother upon learning her HIV status. As is all too common for impoverished people infected with HIV, Emmanuel's mother struggles to retain her strength with so little food. The anti-retroviral drugs (ARV's) are provided by the government, but if taken without food, ARV's will make the patient sick and weak.

Needs:

NAME: Mercy Njeri
AGE: 8
CLASS: Nursery

History: Mercy lives with both parents who are not working. The family survives on the negligible income from odd jobs and they often are forced to go days without eating. In January of 2009, Mercy's older sister died of anemia, an affliction of which Mercy also suffers.

Needs: Because of Mercy's anemia, she requires additional funds for nutritional supplements.

NAME: Teresia Nyokabi
AGE: 12
CLASS: 6

History: Teresia's father died sometime before 2004, before Teresia came to the center. Her mother and two of her three siblings are all HIV positive. She herself is not positive and nearly all of the work in her household fell on her shoulders. From November 2008 until recently, she had been living in the streets after her aunt kidnapped her, unbeknownst to her mother where she was or whether she was alive. We found her on February 6 th in a government rehabilitation center for street kids. She now lives with a foster family because the man her mother lives with poses a threat to her wellbeing.

Needs:

NAME: Regina Washeke
AGE: 8
CLASS: 1

History: Regina lives with her mother and older sister who are both HIV positive. She herself is also HIV positive, but her two young sisters are negative. Her father died in 2002 of AIDS. As Regina's mother's status is quite progressed, she is unable to do many of the jobs that help other families to get by, such as washing dishes or clothes, because they pose great risk to her health.

Needs: Due to her HIV status, Regina will require additional money to pay for doctor's visits, nutritional supplements and medications.
